The Professional Life

When I began my career journey to becoming a Content Strategist over 15 years ago I began as a Freelance Writer. Back then Facebook had just become big, many companies were still just creating their first professional website, and to create videos you had to lug around a 10lb camera. I turned what was a dark period of journalism into a profitable career working online by creating written content for those new websites, and online portals trying to get their piece of the Google traffic pie.

Fast forward and I have grown my business to be one that can create a website, establish brand voices, and turn one piece of written content into a plethora of social media posts, custom images (when appropriate) and video content. YouTube being the second biggest search engine on the planet–and a subsidiary of the largest–is providing my clients with new avenues to be discovered online easily, and can become a great alternative or addition to traditional SEO.

I am incredibly lucky to be in a career of constant learning and evolving and couldn’t imagine doing anything else (six-figure professional candy tester was unfortunately taken).

The Personal Side

Working online for about 15 years now I have loved the freedom it has given me. It has allowed me to live in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico for over a decade, and travel extensively throughout North America, Central America and SE Asia. To a lesser extent Europe and Australia.

I’ve become an advanced-certified scuba diver, went volcano boarding, hiked up mountains, surfed— kind of (when you’re learning there’s a fine line between surfing and repeatedly almost drowning), accidentally went to Australia (don’t try to go drink for drink with Aussie backpackers), and once got stuck in an East Timorese detention camp.

The luck doesn’t end there, I have also had the opportunity to work with fantastic non-profit organizations including the Open Source Ecology Project and animal rescue organizations (helping them get the pups to their furrever homes, fundraising and other volunteering).
